Single-Wall vs Dual-Wall Filter Baskets: Sage Part Numbers by Model
Most Sage espresso machines are supplied with two kinds of filter basket. They look almost the same from above, but they behave very differently, and Sage gives each one its own part number.
The difference
A single-wall basket has one perforated floor. The resistance that builds pressure during extraction comes from the coffee puck itself, so the grind size, dose and tamp all matter. It is the basket to use with freshly ground coffee when you want to adjust the grind.
A dual-wall basket (often called pressurised) has a second floor underneath with only a small outlet. That outlet provides much of the resistance, so the basket is more forgiving of a coarser grind or pre-ground coffee, at the cost of less control over the shot.
You can usually tell them apart by turning the basket over: a dual-wall basket shows a solid outer floor with a single small hole; a single-wall basket shows the perforations directly. Sage’s part names also say which is which (“Single Wall” or “Dual Wall”).
54 mm baskets Sage lists for the Barista, Duo-Temp and Touch machines
| Part | Type | Cups | Listed for (models visible on Sage’s page) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SP0001518 | Single wall | 1 | BES810, BES870, BES875, BES878, BES880 |
| SP0001520 | Single wall | 2 | BES810, BES870, BES875, BES878, BES880 |
| SP0001519 | Dual wall | 1 | BES810, BES870, BES875, BES878, BES880 |
| SP0001521 | Dual wall | 2 | BES810, BES870, BES875, BES878, BES880 |
Sage’s pages for these four baskets show five models and then a “View More” control that loads further models in the browser. We list only the five models the page itself shows. If your model is a 54 mm machine that is not in this table — for example the Barista Express Impress BES876 or the Barista Touch Impress BES882 — the basket may well be listed for it on Sage’s site; check the official page before ordering.
54 mm baskets for the Bambino machines
Sage lists separate dual-wall baskets for the Bambino BES450 and the Bambino Plus BES500:
| Part | Type | Cups | Listed for |
|---|---|---|---|
| SP0024834 | Dual wall | 1 | BES450, BES500 |
| SP0024833 | Dual wall | 2 | BES450, BES500 |
We have not found a Sage single-wall basket page that lists the Bambino codes. Whether the single-wall baskets above fit a Bambino is therefore unconfirmed here.
58 mm baskets
| Part | Type | Cups | Listed for |
|---|---|---|---|
| SP0016051 | Single wall, sandblasted | 1 | BES920, BES985, BES995 |
| SP0001880 | Single wall | 2 | BES920, BES985 |
| SP0001765 | Dual wall | 1 | BES920 |
| SP0001757 | Dual wall | 2 | BES920 |
| SP0020082 | Dual wall | 1 | BES920 |
Two different 1-cup dual-wall baskets are listed for the Dual Boiler BES920 (SP0001765 and SP0020082). Sage’s pages do not explain the difference; if you need one, quote both numbers to Sage support and ask which matches your machine’s production date.
Before you order a basket
- Check the basket matches the portafilter you own. If your portafilter has been replaced with a non-Sage one, the original basket may not sit correctly in it.
- Keep the retaining spring in mind: if a basket falls out of the portafilter, the spring may be worn. Sage lists it separately (SP0020027 for 54 mm, SP0001818 for 58 mm).
- A tamper must match the basket diameter: see the 54 mm tamper SP0001516 and 58 mm tamper SP0001739.
